Reader’s Question:
My husband was just diagnosed with Prostate cancer, we were lucky enough to discover it in it’s early stages so the doctors here in Ohio are optimistic however, hubby and I are realist and we want to get life insurance for him and also for our kids, what should we know about life insurance for someone who has cancer?

The first thing that you should know is that it would be very difficult to get a life insurance plan once an insurance provider knows that you have cancer. Additionally, it would be next to impossible to be granted life insurance coverage while undergoing cancer treatment. The fact that you and your husband was able to discover his illness early on, and that you are told by the doctors that the chances of a complete recovery are still high, would probably go along way in helping you to get a life insurance company to grant your husband coverage.
Certain forms of cancer are far riskier than others and this would have a big influence on how premiums will be calculated. It is also not advisable to lie that your husband doesn’t have cancer or any illnesses, since in the even that he does succumb to the disease your insurance carrier might refuse to pay you (or whoever your husband’s beneficiaries are) the death benefits.
It would be a good idea to run a life insurance quote check on life insurance portals, like this website, and focus on the companies that advertises the most competitive rates to increase your chances of getting a policy. The services of a knowledgeable and experienced life insurance agent or broker there in Ohio would also be invaluable at this point, since they may be able to negotiate coverage for you, as well as explain to you what to expect on your insurance before and after treatment.
